SUPPORTING EDUCATION
Quality education remains one of the most powerful predictors of professional and
financial success in the U.S.—and a vital pathway for ALICE households to achieve longterm stability. In 2024, we supported local ALICE students by organizing a school supply
drive and distributing Little Free Libraries throughout our communities, helping to pave the
way for brighter futures.
PROSPER STUDENTS
LITTLE FREE LIBRARY
Rappahannock United Way's Prosper
Students program equips students with
essential financial literacy and job
readiness skills to prepare them for
adulthood. Through interactive workshops,
students gain hands-on experience in
resume building, interview techniques,
budgeting, credit management, and
independent living skills.
Rappahannock United Way partners with
Little Free Library, a nonprofit
organization based in St. Paul,
Minnesota, to inspire readers and
expand book access through a global
network of volunteer-led book-exchange
boxes. With our own Little Free Library
outside the RUW building, we aim to see
these libraries spread throughout our
community, empowering individuals by
removing barriers to discovering
meaningful books.
Eligible high school seniors also have the
opportunity to earn an education
scholarship to support their future
success. Avery H., a Prosper Student
participant, was awarded an RUW
scholarship in August 2023 and is now
studying Business at the
College of William & Mary.

Last year, volunteers built and
distributed four Little Free Libraries,
placing them in locations across our
region to foster a love of reading and
encourage the sharing of books.
